2014 Entry – Nudibranch necklace
Guatemalan Jadeite, copper and cord
Dimensions – 4" x 2.5" x 1.25"
The Nudibranch species, a soft bodied marine mollusk found in warm salt water reefs, inspired this necklace. I was intrigued by their undulating contours which made for a fun and challanging carving in this Guatemalan jadeite.
I found the recently aquired jadite to be much harder than others I 've tried from Peter lee. The colour is glorious, the inclusions work with the subject, and at this size, one would think it too heavy to wear. It weighs only 4.2 oz.
